Today there were weed boats hard at work on the Bury to Bolton canal. They were working between school street and the rear of Tesco express. Machines like these make short work of clearing weed and debris from the canal. It’s a welcome sight seeing the improvement in what was an area that was next on the list for volunteers to tackle. A great start to hopefully bringing the canal back from it’s overgrown and neglected state
I used to fish the canal from Withins Bridge towards Bury. I was actually deadbaiting while the overflow was being constructed at the farmers arms which lowered the water level. How much silt is in the canal as it is so shallow in some areas. The lily beds have more or less vanished with that hideous floating stuff presumably blocking the light for long periods.
